LumaBooth is good software, and we will say that before anything else. On an iPad at a wedding, with an attendant and a sharing station, it is hard to beat. People looking for a LumaBooth alternative usually are not unhappy with the app itself. They have hit one of three walls: the monthly bill, the move from iPad to a DSLR print booth, or the need to take card payments with nobody standing there.
If one of those is your reason, this page compares the money and the features honestly, including the cases where LumaBooth is still the right choice.
What LumaBooth costs in 2026
LumaBooth now comes in several versions. The iPhone and iPad app is sold as a subscription, listed at $18 a month in LumaBooth’s own help center. The Windows edition, formerly dslrBooth, runs $17 a month on an annual plan, or $49.99 for each month paid monthly. There is also an Android app.
Event galleries run on their fotoShare cloud. The free plan keeps events online for three months; Plus is $19.99 a month and Business is $39.99 a month. Their plan breakdown lists what each tier includes.
| Software | How you pay | Three-year cost |
|---|---|---|
| LumaBooth for iPad and iPhone | $18 a month | About $648 |
| LumaBooth for Windows, annual | $17 a month, billed yearly | About $612 |
| LumaBooth for Windows, monthly | $49.99 a month | About $1,800 |
| VertexBooth | $250 once, early access price | $250 |
Prices are from each vendor in October 2026 and exclude gallery upgrades. Subscriptions also tend to rise over time, while a one-time licence does not.
Where LumaBooth is still the better pick
Be clear about this before switching. LumaBooth runs on iPads, iPhones, Android devices, Macs and Windows PCs. VertexBooth runs on Windows only. So if your business is built around tablets on stands, the honest alternative is another tablet app, not us.
LumaBooth also covers more booth types. It handles 360 spinners, video and several other modes, whereas we do stills, GIFs and boomerangs, with video on our roadmap and not yet shipped. Finally, its hosted galleries are mature. If microsites and branded galleries are what your clients pay for, that is a real strength.
Where a LumaBooth alternative makes more sense
The picture changes when the booth has a DSLR, a printer and no attendant. That is the job VertexBooth was built for, because we wrote it to run our own vending machines. If you are still choosing the hardware, start with what a commercial photo booth needs inside.

You own the licence
A VertexBooth licence costs $250 one time and includes a year of updates. When that year ends, the software keeps running exactly as before. Over three years, that is the difference shown in the table above, and it grows with every booth you add.
Card payment is built in
For an unattended booth, payment cannot be an afterthought. Our software talks MDB, the standard vending protocol, using a Qibixx bridge. As a result, Nayax readers and cash hardware connect to the booth directly instead of through an extra box. Our post on wiring a Nayax reader into a photo booth shows how.
Delivery goes to your own storage
Guests get their photos by text, email or QR code, and the files sit on storage you control. Nothing is charged per share, since no service of ours sits between the booth and the guest.
You design screens by dragging them
Every screen, from idle to payment to delivery, is built visually rather than through settings menus. Likewise, AI filters run on your own API key, so the AI bill goes to the provider with no markup from us.

Which one fits your booth
Most operators do not need to choose for every booth at once. Instead, match the software to the job each booth does.
| Your booth | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| iPad on a stand at weddings | LumaBooth | Built for tablets and attended sharing |
| 360 spinner or video guest book | LumaBooth | We do not support those modes yet |
| DSLR print booth at events | Either; compare on cost | Both tether DSLRs and print strips |
| Unattended kiosk taking cards | VertexBooth | MDB payment is built in, not added on |
| Several Windows booths you own | VertexBooth | One payment per licence instead of a monthly bill |
The middle row is where most people searching for a LumaBooth alternative actually sit. In that case, the deciding factor is usually the subscription, so run the three-year numbers for your own booth count before deciding.
Switching from LumaBooth without losing a booking
Switching software mid-season is risky, so do it in stages. Install VertexBooth alongside your current setup; the two do not interfere. Next, rebuild your most-used strip layout and run test prints on your real printer. Then use it at one low-stakes event, or for a week on a kiosk, before moving everything across.
Your camera probably works already. Canon, Sony and Nikon bodies connect by USB cable, and webcams work as well. If you are moving from iPad to DSLR at the same time, read our comparison of iPad vs DSLR photo booths first, since the hardware change is the bigger decision.
Try it before you cancel anything
Install it next to your current setup and build your real booth on it. The trial never expires and needs no signup; the only limit is a watermark on each photo. When you are convinced, one $250 payment makes it yours at the early access price.

LumaBooth alternative questions
Is there a free LumaBooth alternative?
VertexBooth is free to download and runs fully unlicensed, with a watermark on every photo. That makes it a genuine way to test, although a paying booth will want the licence.
Is there a LumaBooth alternative for Android?
Not from us. VertexBooth runs on Windows only. LumaBooth itself has an Android app, so if Android hardware is a must, that may be the simplest route.
Can my LumaBooth layouts move across?
Not automatically. Layouts are rebuilt in our strip builder by dragging photo slots into place, and a design usually takes a few minutes.
Do I need a DSLR to switch?
No. VertexBooth works with webcams as well as Canon, Sony and Nikon bodies. A DSLR makes the biggest difference on printed strips, so it is worth planning for later.
If your booth is a tablet at weddings, stay where you are. If it is a print booth that should take money on its own, give VertexBooth one week on your hardware and judge it on the results.
