Most lists of vending machines for bars open with a snack machine, and that is the wrong place to start. Nobody standing at your bar at eleven on a Friday wants a bag of pretzels from a coil. They want wings from your kitchen, and you want them to order the wings.
The machines that earn in a bar are the ones that sell something the bar cannot, or that sell a moment rather than a product. I have pitched hundreds of South Florida venues on one of them, so I have also seen most of the others up close. Here is how they rank, and what each one asks of you in return.
The four questions that sort vending machines for bars
Before any specific machine, four questions decide whether it belongs in a bar at all.
- Does a guest want it at eleven at night? Not at lunch, not in an office. In your room, at your busiest hour, with a drink in hand.
- Does it need your staff? A bartender who has to unlock, restock or explain a machine is a bartender not pouring. The machine has to run itself.
- Does Florida law care? Some products carry statutory rules on where and how they can be vended. You are the licensee in the room, so you need to know.
- Does it make a moment, or fill a need? Filling a need earns a few dollars. Making a moment gets photographed with your logo in the frame.
Vending machines for bars, ranked
| Machine | Guest motive | Staff needed | Compliance note | Moment or need |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photo booth | Wants a picture with these people, tonight | None | None specific to Florida | Moment. The print carries your name out the door |
| Breathalyzer kiosk | Curiosity, then caution | None | None | Moment, briefly. Low ticket |
| Phone charging locker | Battery at 4% | None | None | Need. Keeps a guest in the room another hour |
| Cigarette machine | Ran out | Lockout control unless the venue is 21 and over | Florida Statute 569.007 | Need |
| Vape machine | Ran out | Age verification | Regulated separately, changing often | Need |
| ATM | Cash for the tip jar or the cover | None | Surcharge disclosure | Need |
| Claw or prize machine | Two dollars of bravado | Restocking prizes | Amusement game rules vary by county | Moment. Wears off fast |
| Personal care vending | Restroom emergency | None | None | Need. Belongs in the restroom, not the room |
| Snack and drink combo | Hungry | None | None | Need. Competes with your kitchen |
On the cigarette row, Florida law is specific. Under Chapter 569, a tobacco vending machine has to be fitted with a lockout device controlled by your staff for each sale, unless the premises bar everyone under 21. A true 21-and-over bar is exempt. A restaurant bar or an 18-plus venue is not, and that lockout means a bartender is now part of the transaction.

Why the moment machines win in a bar
Need machines earn once, when the need arises. The guest with a dead phone rents a locker once. The guest who ran out of cigarettes buys one pack. Neither of them tells anyone about it, and neither of them comes back because of it.
A moment machine works differently. A group sees the booth, one of them walks over, and two minutes later there are four people in it. They leave with a printed strip that has your bar’s name on it. Some of them post it. Later in the night a different group does the same thing, because they saw the first group do it.
That is the whole reason I stopped renting booths to events and started placing them permanently. A bar manager in Broward told me in early 2026 that he already had a photo booth, and it turned out to be a vending machine. He had no interest in paying for entertainment and then marketing it. He wanted something fun in the room that guests paid for themselves. Every bar owner I have spoken to since has wanted the same thing.
If you want the fuller version of that argument, photo booth for bars covers the questions to put to any operator before signing, including us. The non-vending options, trivia nights and pool tables included, are scored side by side in bar entertainment ideas.
What it takes to host one
A permanent booth needs a wall, an outlet and about the footprint of a chest freezer. It does not need a curtain rail, a backdrop or a staff member. It takes card payment on its own, and the operator, not the bar, handles paper, ink and repairs.
The venue pays nothing to have it installed and keeps a share of every session. We build the machine ourselves, so it arrives wrapped in your branding rather than ours, and the strips it prints carry your name. Our permanent photo booth installation page sets out the whole arrangement.

Want the one machine on this list that guests photograph?
We place permanent photo booths in South Florida bars at no cost to the venue. You give us a wall and an outlet. We handle the build, the install, the card reader, the paper and the repairs, and you keep a share of what it takes. Describe the room and we will say plainly whether it works.
Timing it for a South Florida bar
Fall is when this decision pays best. The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show lands in late October and fills every bar within a mile of the Intracoastal. Snowbird season runs from November through April and lifts weekday traffic across Broward and Palm Beach. Holiday party bookings are made in September and October. A machine that goes in now is in the room for all of it.
Our first placed booth opened at Nova Southeastern University in August 2026. Guests paid for over 300 sessions in the opening month, and Friday was the busiest day by a wide margin. A bar has a different curve, but Friday being the peak is the part that should sound familiar.
Common questions about vending machines in bars
Does a bar need a licence to host a vending machine in Florida?
For most machines the operator holds the relevant permits, not the bar. Tobacco and vape machines are the exception, where the location’s own licence status and age policy decide whether the machine can operate at all. Ask the operator to show you the statute they are relying on.
Which vending machine makes the most money in a bar?
It depends on the room, so distrust anyone who gives you a flat number. As a rule, machines that create a shared moment outperform machines that fill a solitary need, because groups use them together and use them again. A photo booth is the clearest case.
Who restocks and repairs the machine?
The operator, under any agreement worth signing. Get the response time in writing. A machine that shows an error screen all weekend costs you goodwill, and it is your name on the room.
Can a vending machine match my bar’s branding?
Snack and drink machines rarely can. Our booths are built to order, so the wrap, the on-screen artwork and the printed strips all carry the bar’s identity. The operator’s logo stays small.
I will grant that a phone charging locker is the safer bet. It fails quietly and nobody complains. The booth is the one I would put in my own bar, because it is the only machine on this list that gives a table of four a reason to get up, and gives them something with your name on it to take home.
